As part of a major initiative on generating and sustaining a smart environment using ICT to tackle climate change, ITU is organizing Symposia and Events to bring together key specialists in the field, from top decision-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others.
For example, Internet of Things is expected to support the smart sustainable city vision, aiming at the seamless integration of advanced ICTs in support of urban services. Smart sustainable cities supported by IoT, are seen as the ideal arrangement for providing solutions to climate change to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve quality of life (QoL).
Accordingly, topics presented and discussed at ITU Symposia and Events include, inter alia, the adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change, shaping smart sustainable cities (SSC), implementing an IoT-based framework within cities, 'green' ICT policy frameworks, green ICT standards, green applications, environmental sustainability, e-waste management, circular economy, smart administration services, the use of ICTs in climate change science, and in emergency situations and also measurement concerns related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs).
The Symposia and Events are transmitted via the Internet to allow remote participants to see and hear the presentations from wherever they are in the world.
