STI Forum Side Event: "Frontier Technologies to Protect the Environment and Tackle Climate Change"

Introduction
Frontier technologies are new, cutting-edge and innovative technologies that offer vast potential to help identify, mitigate and (where possible) reverse the effects of climate change. Leveraging these technologies to engineer new solutions to address climate change represents a significant opportunity to accelerate efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts".

The side event was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UN Environment, the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN Global Compact, United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Objectives
This Side Event provided a platform to discuss the ways in which frontier technologies are helping to: address climate change, drive sustainability and environmental resilience, and empower people all over the globe.
