Summary of WP1/16 Questions Results

Question 11/16 (Multimedia systems, terminals, gateways and data conferencing)

Since the previous SG16 meeting in April 2024, no interim meetings were held for Question 11/16.

Question 13/16 (Content delivery, multimedia application platforms and end systems for IP-based TV services including DS)

Question 13/16 experts met online, 20-22 August 2024 chaired by the Rapporteur Mr Chuanyang MIAO (ZTE, China). The group reviewed four contributions on current work items including F.IPTV-VRSReqs, H.IPTV-EDM and H.ILMTS-arch. No items were proposed for Consent by WP1/16 and no new work item proposals were made at this meeting. One incoming liaison statement was reviewed, and one reply LS was issued (SG16-LS211​). Question 13/16 also held a joint session with Question 21/16 to discuss the potential coordination work for the upcoming new study period. The Question plans no further meetings in the interregnum period.

Question 21/16 (Multimedia framework, applications and services)

Question 21/16 "Multimedia framework, applications and services" met online, 20-22 August 2024 chaired by Ms Miaoqiong Wang (CAICT, China) and Ms Zhang Nijingnan (China Unicom), with 20 participants over the three days. The Question progressed work based on 11 contributions received for ten WIs: H.USMArch, F.CAR-reqs, H.CAR-FA, H.CVR-OP, F.HIM, F.FMDAV, F.3DCS-reqts, F.NRCRS-FAR, F.DPLM-REM, F.DADOCM. Q21/16 plans no additional interim activities before the next SG meeting in January 2025. No new work item was proposed at this meeting, no items were proposed to be discontinued. The one work item proposed for Consent by the Question was not agreed at the WP1/16 meeting:

Question 22/16 (Multimedia aspects of distributed ledger technologies and e-services)

Since the previous SG16 meeting in April 2024, no interim meetings were held for Question 22/16.

Question 27/16 (Vehicular multimedia communications, systems, networks, and applications)

Question 27/16 met two times in the interim period.
Question 27/16 experts met online, 19-20 June 2024. (NB: The session originally planned for 21 June was not used as all agenda items were covered in two days.) The group reviewed two contributions on current work items including H.VM-AVP (Framework for assessment of video processing components in vehicle systems) and a new work item proposal of H.VMS-test (Testing of Vehicular Multimedia Systems). The Question agreed to send an outgoing LS on the initiation of new work item H.VM-AVP "Framework for assessment of video processing components in vehicle systems" [to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC29 WG4], which was postponed till the subsequent Q27/16 RGM. At that meeting, Q27/16 agreed to start a new work item:
​Question 27/16 experts met online, 26-28 August 2024. The group reviewed 17 contributions on current work items and three new work item proposals. The group revised an outgoing LS that was decided in the previous Q27/16 in June. The group did not move any work items for Consent. The group plans to hold one extra meeting before the next SG meeting in January 2025, namely: online, 13-15 November 2024. At that meeting, Q27/16 agreed to start work on three new work items:
No texts were prepared for Consent or Determination. The experts proposed to hold one extra RGM online, 13-15 November 2024.​​​​ The meeting confirmed the text of an outgoing liaison statement prepared at the previous meeting, which was dispatched as SG16-LS212​.​​​

Summary of WP2/16 Questions Results

Question 23/16 (Digital culture-related systems and services)  

Question 23/16 "Digital culture-related systems and services" had a rapporteurs Group meeting online, 26-27 August 2024. Q23/16 received five contributions proposing to progress the ongoing work items and two contributions proposing to establish new work items. During the meeting, seven contributions were reviewed, and related ongoing work items were progressed. No outgoing liaison statement was produced, and two new work items were proposed at this meeting:​
​Q23/16 plans one interim meeting in November 2024 (already pre-approved by SG16 in April 2024).​

Question 24/16 ​(Human factors for intelligent user interfaces and services)​

Question 24/16 was addressed in two sessions during the E-meeting, which was held on 27 August 2024, under the chairship of Miran Choi (ETRI, Korea). The Question received four contributions. The Question discussed three contributions for on-going projects: F.MDI, F.GI-WD, and F.RUHUD-IV. There was no new work item proposal. The Question also discussed the proposal for a new Question in SG20. The proposed text for each work item was reflected on the output draft. The next Rapporteur meeting is planned to be held in November 2024 and during the next SG meeting in January 2025. The Question produced no outgoing liaison statement at this meeting.

Question 26/16 (Accessibility to multimedia systems and services)

Question 26/16 held its e-meeting on 26 Aug. 2024 chaired by Masahito Kawamori (Keio University, Japan). Five documents were reviewed. No items were proposed for Consent or Determination. No outgoing LSs were produced. Experts of the Question will meet next during the next SG meeting in January 2025. Concerning new work items, none was created, however, a joint work with Q8/16 will be carried out, under the lead of Q8/16. A joint session of both Questions is planned for the SG meeting in January 2025.
 

Question 28/16 (Multimedia framework for digital health applications)

Question 28/16 met two times in the interim period. 
Question 28/16 Multimedia framework for digital health applications held its e-meeting on 5 July 2024 chaired by Masahito Kawamori (Keio University, Japan). 
The Question agreed to start one new work item: ​The meeting agreed to send one outgoing LS to ITU-T SG12. The experts agreed to hold one RGM prior to the WP2/16 plenary in August 2024.

Question 28/16 Multimedia framework for digital health applications held its 2nd e-meeting on 27 – 29 Aug. 2024 chaired by Masahito Kawamori (Keio University, Japan). The meeting was held online but collocated locally with the Workshop on Digital Health Data Exchange hosted by TTC (Japan) in Tokyo, Japan.
The meeting agreed one text for Consent:​ The Question prepared three outgoing LSs.​
Two new work items were prepared:
​​Concerning the proposed text for Consent of ITU-T H.872 (ex H.SL-ES) "Global standard for safe listening in video gaming and esports" (New) in TD205/WP2​, several improvements were done during the plenary, also that attention needs to be paid to the proper terminology.​

Summary of WP3/16 Questions Results

Question 5/16​​ (Artificial intelligence-enabled multimedia applications)

The meeting was chaired by Yuntao Wang (CAICT, China), assisted by Yuwei Wang (Institute of Computing Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) and Qing Liu (China Telecom).
Question 5/16 experts met during this RGM meeting, with 59 participants. This meeting discussed 40 contributions and updated 27 existing work items, five work items were agreed on submitting for consent at the next WP3/16 meeting. Four were agreed by WP3/16:​

Q5/16 requested authorization to hold an extra online RGM in December 2024, to advance its work items.

Question 6/16 (Visual, audio and signal coding)

Question 6/16 (VCEG) held its 74th meeting from 15–19 July 2024 in Sapporo, Japan, hosted by the Information Technology Standards Commission of Japan (ITSCJ). The meeting was coordinated with the ITU-T/ISO/IEC Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) and other MPEG and JPEG working groups. The meeting was chaired by Gary Sullivan from Dolby Labs, US, with the assistance of Associate Rapporteur Yan Ye from Alibaba, China. Approximately 76 people attended, with 68 in person and 8 remotely.
The primary goals of the meeting were to discuss the status of JVET’s work, develop Recommendation H.BWC on biomedical and general waveform coding, and coordinate with other relevant organizations. These goals were successfully achieved. Three incoming liaison statements were considered, but no liaison statements were issued from the meeting. A preliminary draft of use cases and requirements for potential next-generation video coding beyond VVC capability was produced jointly with SC 29/WG 2 (MPEG Requirements) and issued as an output of the meeting. No texts were proposed for AAP Consent or TAP Determination, and no outgoing liaison statements were prepared. The future meeting plans of Q6/16 remained unchanged, with plans to generally meet along with JVET during interim periods between SG 16 meetings.
The Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) of ITU-T WP3/16 and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29 held its thirty-fifth meeting from 12–19 July 2024 in Sapporo, Japan, initially at ACU Sapporo and later at the Sapporo Convention Center. The meeting was hybrid, allowing remote participation for those unable to travel. For ISO/IEC purposes, JVET is also known as ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG 5, and this was its sixteenth meeting as WG 5. The meeting was chaired by Jens-Rainer Ohm from RWTH Aachen, Germany. The meeting began at 0910 JST on Friday, 12 July 2024, and continued daily, including the weekend, until it concluded at 1715 JST on Friday, 19 July 2024. Approximately 375 people attended, with 212 in person and 163 remotely. Around 200 input documents, 16 AHG reports, 2 EE summary reports, 2 BoG reports, and 1 incoming liaison document were discussed. The meeting was collocated with various SC29 Working Groups and Advisory Groups, representing the Joint Video Coding Team(s) under the SC 29 parent body. The JVET meeting focused on the development and maintenance of video coding standards such as AVC, HEVC, VVC, CICP, and VSEI, along with related technical reports, reference software, and conformance testing packages. Key goals included reviewing the results of Exploration Experiments on Neural Network-based Video Coding and Enhanced Compression beyond VVC capability, and planning next steps for further standard development. The primary goal was to review the interim work since the thirty-fourth JVET meeting and produce planned document deliverables. The meeting resulted in 20 output documents.

Question 8/16 (Immersive live experience systems and services)

Q​uestion 8/16 met for five sessions at Q8/16 interim rapporteur group meeting on 26-28 August 2024 chaired by the Rapporteur, Mr Hideo Imanaka (NICT, Japan), and associate rapporteurs, Mr Jiro Nagao (NTT, Japan) and Mr Hoerim Choi (KT, Korea). Q8/16 discussed 15 contributions and several input Liaison Statements. The meeting had 34 experts in attendance, some remotely. As the result, draft Recommendations H.ILE-AMR, H.ILE-FT, H.ILE-3DIT, H.ILE-AR and H.ILE-3DINR, which were available in RGM site, were updated according to the discussion results of contributions. No existing items were discontinued, and it was agreed to establish two new work items: ​
Three outgoing LSs were agreed, dispatched as SG16-LS213, SG16-LS214 and SG16-LS215​.
Q8/16 experts will meet during the next SG meeting in January 2025.

Question 12/16 met in Geneva with remote participation from 26 to 29 August 2024, and 32 delegates attended this meeting. Q12/16 received 21 contributions, amongst them, three contributions proposed texts for TAP Determination, three contributions proposed new work items, fifteen contributions had proposals to progress the ongoing work items, and three incoming liaison statement were reviewed. The Question prepared one reply LS on collaboration on JPEG XE and another on one of the new WIs created at this meeting, upon agreement by WP3/16 of the underlying actions, as found in SG16-TD315/WP3:
