Session on SG5 WTSA-24 preparation and report of the WTSA-24 Preparation Ad-Hoc Group
The ad-hoc group, established during the last ITU-T SG5 meeting (13–23 June 2023) in Sophia Antipolis, undertook the task of formulating a proposal outlining the anticipated structure and terms of reference for various Questions within ITU-T SG5 for the upcoming study period. The ad-hoc group met three times from 9 August 2023 to 2 November 2023. The report of the progress of the ad-hoc group was presented and approved during the SG5 opening plenary on 13 November 2023, as contained in
TD1135-R1.
During the SG5 meeting (13–21 November 2023), three sessions of the SG5 WTSA-24 preparation ad-hoc group were held as follows:

Updates on Focus Group on metaverse — WG8: Sustainability, Accessibility & Inclusion with special focus on Technical group on sustainability
During the SG5 opening plenary, an update was provided on the work of WG8 “Sustainability, Accessibility & Inclusion” of the
Focus Group on metaverse, related to activities carried out in the Task Group on sustainability. This TG is currently working on a deliverable on “Guidance on green and low carbon development of metaverse”. The presentation is contained as
TD1132, and the latest version of FG-MV D.WG8-XX “Guidance on green and low carbon development of metaverse” is available in
TD1118-R1. SG5 experts were encouraged to discuss this deliverable during their sessions and provide comments.
ITU-T SG5 Regional Groups

ITU-T Regional Group for
Asia and the Pacific (SG5RG-AP)
ITU-T SG5 Regional Group for Asia and the Pacific (
SG5RG-AP) met in Bangkok, Thailand, from 11–12 September 2023. The SG5RG-AP Chair presented the report as contained in
TD1098. The SG5RG-AP Chair also presented
TD1003 – Revised Terms of Reference of SG5RG-AP and requested approval of this revised ToR. No comments were raised, and the SG5RG-AP ToR was approved as contained in
TD1098.

ITU-T Regional Group for Africa (SG5RG-AFR)
Burkina Faso has confirmed its willingness to host the 2024 meeting of the ITU-T SG5 Regional Group for Africa. The Ministry of “Digital Transition, Post and Electronic Communications” officially communicated this intention in a letter to the Director of the Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau.
Collaboration matters and information sharing
During the opening plenary, the following information was provided:

ITU Activities to COP28 (1–12 December 2023):
A presentation on Green Digital Action Track as contained in
TD1122 was delivered by Ms Robin Zuercher, Programme Officer, General Secretariat.

Collaboration with ITU-D
A presentation on Prospective scope for collaboration between ITU-D, SG2, Q6/2 and ITU T, SG5 as contained in
TD1131 was delivered by Ms Aprajita Sharrma, Rapporteur of ITU-D Q6/2.
During the closing plenary, the following presentation was delivered:
Presentation on Update of ISO Climate Change Coordination Committee (CCCC) and ISO Guide 84: 2020 as contained in
TD1207 was delivered by Mr Pengcheng Li.
Promotion activities and bridging the standardization gap

TSB provided information on the list of stale and possible work items as contained in
TD1057-R1. The Rapporteurs of the concerned Questions were encouraged to discuss these work items during their respective sessions and take appropriate action.
Dates of the next ITU-T SG5 meeting
A SG5 or WP3/5 virtual plenary is planned to take place in March 2024. The purpose of this plenary will be to consent draft Recommendation ITU-T L.Database “Guidance for the creation of an ITU database on GHG emissions of the global ICT sector”.
The next ITU-T SG5 is planned to be held from 17 to 21 June 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. It was mentioned that the date and venue might change depending on invitations received.
