International standards enabling sustainable development of emerging digital
technologies

The GSS-24,

Recognizing that international standards can accelerate the development of emerging digital technologies
and promoting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals,

- Calls for ITU, IEC and ISO to advance global innovation by developing international standards that
facilitate the adoption of emerging digital technologies and foster industry innovation.

- Recognizes the key contribution of industry in accelerating technology innovation through the
cultivation and development of technical standards in ITU, IEC, ISO and other SDOs.

- Acknowledges the role that cooperative standardization efforts can have in achieving the UN
SDGs by accelerating the development of converged satellite and terrestrial standards, enabling
the rapid deployment of non-terrestrial networks that ensure ubiquitous and affordable
connectivity to smartphones, wearables, cars and IoT.

- Encourages strengthened collaboration among SDOs, especially in the cooperation of
international standards development that would enable developing countries to embrace digital
innovation.
