Network infrastructure
is described in two series of ITU-T Recommendations representing the
main
IMT
Family Members.
The
Q.1741 series
covers IMT-2000 references to Release [x] of GSM evolved UMTS core
network and the
Q.1742 series
covers IMT 2000 references (approved as of [date]) to ANSI-41 evolved
core network with cdma2000 access network. These refer to
specifications transposed by the 3GPP and 3GPP2 Organizational Partners
into national or regional specifications which are then submitted to ITU
for referencing.
These Recommendations
include introductory text, basic architecture diagrams and brief
descriptions of the entities in the architecture, but they are still
relatively complex. For example, in one of the referenced 3GPP core
specifications,
TS 23.002
Network Architecture, clause 4 is entitled The basic entities of the
mobile system yet this text requires careful reading to be understood.
A similar situation exists for 3GPP2s IMT Family Member where the
current version of
S.R0005
provides the Network Reference Model for cdma2000 Spread Spectrum
Systems.
The
versions of the Q.1740 series
are:
Q.1741.1
IMT-2000 references to release 1999 of GSM evolved UMTS core network
Q.1742.1
IMT-2000 references (approved as of 17 July 2001) to ANSI-41 evolved
core network with cdma2000 access network
Q.1742.2
... (approved as of 11 July 2002) ...
Q.1742.3
... (approved as of 30 June 2003) ...
Q.1742.4
... (approved as of 30 June 2004) ...
Q.1742.5
... (approved as of 31 December 2005) ...
Q.1742.6
... (approved as of 31 December 2006) ...
Q.1742.7
... (approved as of 30 June 2008) ...
Q.1742.8
... (approved as of 31 January 2010)
