This side event will highlight Egypt’s experience with its “ICT Indicators Initiative”, as an example of a knowledge management experience. Egypt’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) has led this initiative to overcome a number of challenges related to the availability of reliable ICT indicators. This includes the development of ICT statistics through completion and verification of all missing and incomplete data, in addition to disseminating this data to the public and all interested parties.
First, the “ICT Indicators Initiative” and the launch of “Egypt’s ICT Indicators Portal” in 2008 will be presented followed by an overview of the different types of data that MCIT gathers from its partners as well as the process related.
We will also tackle the different techniques pertaining to data quality assurance and the software used for data storage. A focus is put on primary data – from the data processing stage to the dissemination stage on “Egypt ICT indicators portal” including all the IT systems used in these processes.
Finally, we will provide a snapshot of the components of the portal, the frequency of data updates and techniques used for getting users’ feedback.
