How to open and save Word 2007, Excel 2007, and PowerPoint 2007 files in earlier versions of Office (Office 2003) programs
Mac Office Word 2008 and 2011 can read Office Word 2007 (.docx, pptx or .xlxs) files directly.
To open .docx, pptx or .xlxs files in in earlier versions of Office for Mac, the user needs to install Open XML Converter to convert Open XML files that were created in Office 2007 for Windows (or Office 2008 for Mac) to open, edit, and save them. To install Open XML Converter go to
