Key Insights
The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24), hosted by the Republic of Uganda, brought together over 600 participants including ministers, heads of regulatory authorities, industry executives and academics to discuss pressing regulatory issues around the topic “Regulation for impact”. GSR-24 adopted “GSR-24 Best Practice Guidelines” – a series of considerations for balancing innovation with regulation to create a positive impact on societies and economies from emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
The G5 Accelerator provides the concepts, practical guidance and examples of national approaches to collaborative regulation as well as sound metrics to help regulators navigate through the journey to the next generation of regulation.
The ITU Policy and Economic Colloquium for the Americas IPEC-24 took place in Lima, Peru, and included the Regional Economic Dialogue for the Americas which focused on maximizing the digital opportunities in the Americas Region.
The Digital Regulation Network (DRN) Initiative held its annual meeting together with the Regional Regulatory Associations (RAs) meeting, in Kampala, Uganda. A call for applications for DRN Board members was launched to broaden participation and strengthen strategic direction.

Industry Advisory Group on Development Issues and Private Sector Chief Regulatory Officers’ (IAGDI-CRO)
Industry and private sector leaders met at GSR-24 to share and discuss experiences, best practices, and concrete proposals to address the digital ecosystems’ complex regulatory and business landscape. The Industry Advisory Group on Development Issues and Private Sector Chief Regulatory Officers’ (IAGDI-CRO) meeting 2024 fostered insightful discussions, emphasizing the need for multifaceted incentives for private sector investment, local engagement, capacity building, and developing innovation ecosystems for secure connectivity.
