Implementation of ITU-T international standards for sustainable management of waste
electrical and electronic equipment: The path to a circular economy in Costa Rica

3.4 Actors and shareholders in the WEEE sustainable management in
                          Costa Rica

Another relevant issue is to evaluate actors and stakeholders involved in WEEE sustainable
management in the geographical area of the study. Institutions, companies, organizations,
and other related entities are identified, as well as their role and influence on the WEEE
management system. Once the entities involved and their roles are known, it is possible to lay
down the foundations for the study, and to establish the responsibility of each of them to take
the necessary measures for WEEE sustainable management and advance toward the sector’s
                   circularity.

Figure 17 shows the diversity of actors and stakeholders involved in WEEE sustainable
management in Costa Rica. Each of them has a well-defined role and responsibilities set out in
the national legislation, in particular the Integral Management of Electronic Waste Regulations
                   (Executive Decree 35933, 2010).
