Internet of Things, digital twins and smart sustainable cities and communities
ITU-T Study Group 20 (SG20) is responsible for the development of innovative standards (ITU-T Recommendations), guidelines, reports, methodologies, and best practices for the Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, and smart sustainable cities and communities (SSC&C), with the goal of accelerating digital transformation in both urban and rural areas.
Their scope includes:
- Technological areas: studies on IoT, digital twins, edge computing, metaverse, digital ledger technologies and blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning, big data, data processing and management, advanced analytics, orchestration and automation technologies, and advanced sensing and actuation.
- City services and applications: research on the development and implementation of applications related to various verticals, including health, energy transportation and others, enhancing digital services through innovative solutions.
- Technology and policy aspects: Addressing systems requirements, infrastructure, interoperability and interworking, security, accessibility, and sustainability.
- Frameworks and impact assessment: Creating frameworks for performance measurement, impact assessment, and evaluation of cities and digital services.
- Open-source solutions: Promoting transparency, collaboration, and innovation through open-source solutions, leading to adaptable and cost-effective smart city technologies.
By developing robust standards and best practices, ITU-T Study Group 20 aims to foster global innovation and sustainable development, ensuring secure, accessible, and efficient systems in cities and communities.
