As a follow-up to the Connect Africa Summit, the ITU/Craig and Susan McCaw Broadband Wireless Network project for Africa is implementing broadband wireless networks and developing ICT applications to provide free or low cost digital access for schools and hospitals, and for underserved populations in rural and remote areas in selected countries. The Broadband Wireless Network is Operational in Burundi and in Djibouti
On 13th of July 2012, a donation agreement has been signed with Nexpedience for 180 Base transceiver stations (BTS) equivalent to USD 1'000'000. It will contribute to the broadband wireless connectivity and developing ICT applications and will provide free or low cost digital access for schools and hospitals, and for underserved populations in rural and remote areas in selected countries.
