ITU Workshop for CIS countries was organized in response to
the ITU Regional Initiative for CIS “RI 4: Digital skills and information and communication technology accessibility for the public, in particular for persons with disabilities” and its objectives, defined and adopted by Member States during the 2022 World Telecommunication Development Conference, jointly with
the Resolution WTDC 58 (Rev. Kigali, 2022) “Telecommunication/information and communication technology accessibility for persons with disabilities and persons with specific needs”.
Each year, ITU makes a valuable input and provide networking and training platform for CIS countries to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated annually on December 3rd in accordance with UN General Assembly
Resolution 47/3 of 14 October 1992. This year it was planned to discuss a role of advanced technologies in ICT skills educational programmes as a base of creation sustainable, inclusive and accessible societies.
The workshop was served as regional platform dedicated to promoting ICT accessibility and digital skills, aiming to ensure digital inclusion and empowerment for all individuals, regardless of age, gender, ability, or location. The main objective was to enhance knowledge of stakeholders on digital inclusion policies and strategies; to foster the sharing of best practices on ICT digital accessibility and successful experience in implementing educational programs for persons with disabilities and special needs.
This event represented a unique opportunity for all interested stakeholders to advance the implementation of an inclusive digital ecosystem. It was focused on the role of ICT accessibility and digital skills in regulatory landscape, educational programs and programs of social support in CIS countries. Special attention was addressed to showcasing digital solutions and assistive technologies for improving digital skills of persons with disabilities. Participants benefited from a training session on educational programs for persons with different forms of disabilities, methodological approaches and specific practical examples. The event was also promoted the exchange of experiences on successful cases of national stakeholders implemented to support sustainable, inclusive and accessible societies.
Representatives of the Administrations of ITU Member States, ITU-D Sector Members, ITU-affiliated Academic entities, United Nations specialized agencies, and Regional and other International Organizations in the CIS region was invited to participate.
