Summary:
|
In 2019 alone, a record-breaking 53.6 million metric tons of e-waste was produced. That’s the
equivalent weight of 125,000 Boeing 747 jumbo jets – more than all the commercial aircraft ever manufactured. This incredible volume makes e-waste the world’s fastest-growing domestic waste stream, fuelled primarily by higher consumption rates of electric and electronic equipment, short life cycles, and few options for repair
ITU-T L. Supplement 20 Green public ICT procurement provides technical guidance to public authorities to improve their procurement practices to purchase green ICT goods and services.
The proposed Recommendation would build upon the content of Supplement 20 to include specific requirements in the procurement of ICT equipment that would ensure:
• Minimization of generation of e-waste and its adverse effects
• Maximizing useful life
• Maximizing recyclability
