Guiding AI
Within the short space of 2023, growing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities have emerged as a pressing global issue. ITU has become a key discussion forum on how best to harness AI for the collective benefit of humanity.
AI can help achieve positive impact on 134 targets spanning all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

ITU provides a neutral platform for governments, the industry, and academia to build a common understanding of the capabilities of emerging AI technologies and consequent needs for technical standardization and policy guidance. As we continue surveying our Member States on digital policy and regulatory issues, we are gaining rich insights on their governance needs and development aspirations in relation to AI.
Advising on AI risks
As the technologies and their uses evolve, we continue addressing emerging risks and challenges. We are a key contributor to the UN Secretary-General’s new High-Level Advisory Body on AI. ITU stands at the forefront of global thinking on leveraging AI to accelerate delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
