Accelerated use of ICTs during Covid-19 has been and will continue to be a key contributor to health system resilience in the face of the tremendous stress created by the pandemic. As we learn to live with Covid-19 and anticipate future challenges, the transformation of our health systems towards fully integrated digital technologies will support healthier ageing for more people all around the globe. This panel will address four areas where enthusiastic integration of digital health is already leading to better outcomes: NCDs; such as osteoporosis and heart failure; elder caregiving; vision health and vaccine development.
Across OECD governments, there has been great progress on reimbursement programs for telehealth and telemedicine, especially for older persons. From the US Medicare and Medicaid programs to the UK NHS, in Japan, and across Europe, we are at an inflection point on the role of telehealth and telemedicine in our health systems.

James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, is a widely recognized physician-scientist and experienced administrator. Dr. Tsai is an expert in the diagnosis and management of challenging glaucoma cases. He specializes in glaucoma implant surgery, trabeculectomy with antimetabolite surgery, combined glaucoma and cataract surgery and sutureless cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma. His research interests include the identification of neuroprotective molecules that can shield the optic nerve from damage without lowering intraocular pressure, evaluation of surgical outcomes in glaucoma patients and development of advanced vision testing techniques.
Dr. Tsai is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is an elected member of the American Ophthalmological Society, the American Eye Study Club, the New York Ophthalmological Society and the Manhattan Ophthalmological Society. Dr. Tsai currently serves as Chair of the Glaucoma Subcommittee of the National Eye Health Education Program Planning Committee of the National Institute of Health, Chair of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Global Ophthalmic News & Education Network Advisory Board, Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Glaucoma Foundation and Secretary for the English Language Region of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology.
Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Tsai served as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in the School of Medicine at Yale University and as Chief of Ophthalmology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He previously directed the glaucoma division at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Tsai earned his Medical Degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, and his MBA from Vanderbilt University, followed by residency training in ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute, which at the time was affiliated with the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He conducted his glaucoma fellowship training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Health System, and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and University College London’s Institute of Ophthalmology.
Guy Hadnot is the Senior Marketing Manager within Genenetech Ophthalmology Marketing. Guy received his MBA in Marketing/Finance from the University of California Graduate School of Management. Guy is also a Certified Customer Experience professional and has received his CCXP.
In his current role at Genentech, Guy is responsible for Customer Experience (CX) and Digital Therapeutics including the development/implementation of digital tools/apps designed to support patients with a variety of retinal diseases including; nAMD, DME and DR. Guy brings to Genentech over 20 years of diverse experience in Marketing, Product Management and Customer Experience across various industries including; financial services, healthcare, insurance and consumer packaged goods. Guy has worked with global and domestic organizations including; Nestle, JP Morgan Chase and VISA.
Anthony is innovation practitioner focused on corporate strategy and digital transformation within the pharmaceutical industry. He is an innovation techniques speaker, hands-on implementer and has facilitated innovation and creative strategy projects with thousands of executives across the world. With an undergrad in Chemical Engineering paired with an MBA, Anthony brings a tangible and highly practical approach to implementing and leveraging these practices through high impact projects in the corporate setting and is currently focused on Digital Therapeutics and the value they can bring to our lives.
Mary is an Associate in Health Policy and Clinical Evidence practice. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and maintains her US licence as a Registered Nurse. She obtained a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on health policy and comparative health systems; a second Master’s focused on political science and comparative politics; and, a Doctorate in medical innovation, technology development and the role of public-private partnerships from Columbia University in New York City. Mary has experience in health policy, communications and public affairs domestically and globally in addition to experience in the pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical marketing and advertising in New York. Mary has worked at the World Health Organization and The Commonwealth Fund, concentrating on women’s health and related socioeconomic issues, and as a public health strategist and senior scientist for the UK’s Health Protection Agency with an emphasis on infectious disease and pandemic preparedness. Mary has held professorships in public health at the University of Surrey, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the State University of New York College of Old Westbury. Mary’s career has led to a comprehensive knowledge of the health ecosystem with expertise in building and managing relationships with key stakeholders locally, nationally and globally.
Jisella Dolan has been Chief Advocacy Officer of Home Instead since 2013. She leads the Advocacy division, which includes the Standards, Legal, Government Affairs and Thought Leadership departments. These departments are dedicated to advocating for aging adults and their families, ensuring a consistent quality care experience, protecting the integrity of the Home Instead Senior Care brand and shaping and influencing home care policy around the world. Ms. Dolan started her career with Home Instead in 2007 as the company's first general counsel.
Prior to joining Home Instead, Ms. Dolan was a partner at litigation and business law firm Husch Blackwell. She received her B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
Kassim Javaid studied medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, and did his house jobs in London. He then finished a three year SHO rotation in medicine at Southampton General Hospital followed by 8 months as a registrar before starting at the MRC Environmental Epidemiology Unit in October 2000.
His research areas are in epidemiology and adult metabolic bone disease focusing vitamin D, osteoporosis, secondary fracture prevention and rare bone diseases.
Michael W. Hodin, Ph.D. is CEO of the Global Coalition on Aging, Managing Partner at High Lantern Group, and a Fellow at Oxford University’s Harris Manchester College. Mike is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and from 2010 until 2013, was Adjunct Senior Fellow with a focus on population aging. Mike was the recipient of the 2012 Fred D. Thompson Award from the American Federation for Aging Research. He sits on the Boards of the Foreign Policy Association, Business Council for International Understanding, American Skin Association, American Federation for Aging Research and Emigrant Savings Bank.
Mike was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Ageing. Prior to founding GCOA, he led International Public Affairs and Public policy at Pfizer for 30 years. Mike began his career as Legislative Assistant to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and during this time served as a Visiting Scholar at Brookings Institution.
