Summary:
|
Within the video streaming area Q14/12 has successfully developed several multimedia quality modelling standards, the latest one being P.1204. One key characteristic for all of these standards is the re-use of a modular architecture, which enables a Lego-block-style of design for the different parts of the standards.
It seems likely that a similar architecture (although slightly more complex) would be useful also for working with XR services. This technical report will investigate the XR area and propose a detailed modular objective modelling architecture. The following areas will likely need to be covered: services (AR, VR, scenarios, use-cases); client architectures (device-centric, cloud, split rendering); devices (characteristics, foveated rendering); interfaces (protocols, APIs); measurability (lab, reality, metrics reference points); subjective testing (lab, crowd); test platform (single/multiple headset models, software setup, adding distortions); relevant objective models (parametric, hybrid, modes etc.); modular architecture options; detailed inter-module interfaces; proposed objective modelling architecture.
Note that although subjective testing and test platform is listed above, the main part of that work is assumed to be done by P.IXC. Also, for the other areas this technical report will as far as possible re-use and reference any existing work, to avoid unnecessary double-work or overlap.
