Regional Initiatives for Europe

The roll-out of Child Online Protection Guidelines in Serbia reached approximately 1,000 children. A national event in February 2024 presented the translated materials.

An award ceremony for 81 Child Online Protection-certified trainers was held in Malta, following the successful Training of Trainers (ToT) initiative, making Malta the first European country to implement this module.

At the request of the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society (MFWS), the rollout of the ToT module for MFWS representatives and capacity-building trainings for MFWS representatives and for the national police force across the country were conducted.

At the request of the Government of Andorra, technical expertise was provided, facilitated stakeholder collaboration enhanced, and targeted recommendations were given to enhance the country’s Child Online Protection framework based on the ITU’s guidelines and global best practices. The project also provided recommendations on Child Online Protection-related issues for the establishment and operationalization of the country’s Digital Skills and Wellbeing Agency.

As part of the Her CyberTracks 2024 initiative, a collaboration between ITU, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to empower women in cybersecurity, two events were held in Europe: the Incident Response Forum featured hands-on trainings, CyberDrill exercises, mentorship circles, and study visits for participants, while the Europe Forum offered masterclasses on public speaking and negotiation, simulation exercises, and networking opportunities.  

ITU – EaPeReg – EMERG Capacity-Building Workshop on Quality of Service and Resilience of Mobile Infrastructure for Regulatory Authorities equipped regulatory authorities with the tools and knowledge needed to ensure resilient, high-quality mobile infrastructure while promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing among regulatory bodies from EMERG, EaPeReg, and other European agencies.

The ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean, organized by BDT and co-hosted by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Electronic Governance, featured a Cybersecurity Forum, technical training sessions, and CyberDrill exercises to strengthen the communication and incident response capabilities of participating teams from European countries.
