Topic: Enabling Financial Inclusion with Open and Common APIs for Merchant Payments

Innovation to expand digital financial inclusion was in focus at the second symposium of the Financial Inclusion Global Initiative (FIGI) in Cairo, Egypt, 22-24 January 2019.

The FIGI Hackathon proposed actions to encourage the emergence of a marketplace for open APIs enabling small merchants to adopt e-payment services at low cost.

Outstanding proposals were taken forward by the FIGI community, a diverse set of decision-makers in the public and private sector. T​he Winnin​g Teams received the following prizes:

• First prize: 6’000 USD, Team Hackers, App: Mekaneeky
• Second prize: 3’000 USD, Team Merchant Digital Identity, App: MDI
• Third prize: 2’000 USD, Team Tremoloo, App: Trillion
• Honorable Mention: Team Ka-ching$$, App: Ka Ching
