Michael has been involved with the Executive Committee of the International Cable Protection Committee since 2005, where he is presently Chair of the ICPC Media Working Group and its lead rapporteur with the ITU/UNESCO-IOC/WMO Joint Task Force on “Submarine Communications Networks For Climate Monitoring and Disaster Warning”.
With 40 years experience in telecommunications, Michael has been involved with international submarine cables since 1994, holding various planning, development and management roles with Telstra and its REACH joint venture company.  Michael is presently General Manager International Cables at Telstra Global and has been involved with several major Asia-Pacific cable projects, including the conceptualization, development and implementation of the Asia America Gateway cable.
Michael’s tertiary education includes a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales.
