Introduction
At the kind invitation of the Government of Brazil, the International Telecommunication Union (
ITU) is organizing a workshop on "Universities, Green ICT Standards and Latin America" to be held on 1 August 2013 in São Paulo, Brazil.
Objectives
This workshop will provide examples and will present projects on how ICTs can help to address climate change, promote energy efficiency and build a green economy, shedding light on standards, policies and best practices. This workshop represents an interactive opportunity for policy makers, experts from the ICT sector and the academia to discuss the role of academia in shaping green ICT standards and will provide a platform to set priorities to further advance the development of ICT standards in the area of climate change and environmental sustainability.
This workshop will be preceded by a workshop on "Smart Sustainable Cities in Latin America" to be held on 30 July 2013 and by the second meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities to be held on 31 July 2013.
These events will also be hosted by Telefonica and will take place at the same venue.
Target Audience
The workshop will aim at bringing together academia representatives and leading specialists in the field, such as standards experts, engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, policy-makers and others.
