The session will start with an overview of the activities under the ITU-BSG programme followed by a roundtable discussion during which Asian experts will discuss key issues, constraints, and best practices for effective participation in standards-making and their implementation.

10:45 - 12:30 | Session 2: Emerging Technologies within a Changing Telecommunications Paradigm Telecommunications sector particularly the proliferation of the mobile communication has been the catalyst for socio-economic development. However, the sector is also characterized by rapid changes in technology from the first-generation analogue phones to the fifth generation mobile technology. In addition, emergence of IoT, development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Autonomous Vehicles etc. are paving the way for emergence of new technologies. In this session, the experts will discuss the new and emerging technologies in telecommunications.

Between then and today, telecoms sector has undergone dynamic changes, of both economic and technological nature. In this session, experts will discuss policy and regulatory challenges posed by new, emerging and converging technologies, viz., spectrum management and licensing, consumer protection, cross-border flow of data etc.
