Introduction
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), organized a Workshop on "Reimagining Disaster Risk Reduction: The Role of Standardization and Innovative Technologies" in collaboration with United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), hosted at the
Indian Mobile Congress. This Workshop took place on 17 October 2024, 14:00-17:00 IST.
Objective
This workshop explored the pivotal role of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, digital twins, drones, remote sensing, and blockchain in redefining disaster management.
The sessions featured case studies, real-world applications, and discussions on the latest advancements in AI and other modern technologies. We delved into the transformative power of digital twins for real-time monitoring, the use of AI in crisis response, and the potential of blockchain in aid distribution.
Target Audience
The target audience for the workshop included policymakers, industry leaders, technology innovators, disaster risk reduction (DRR) experts, and representatives from international organizations and other interested stakeholders, all focused on leveraging standardization and innovative technologies to enhance disaster resilience.
Participation was open to attendees registered for
World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) [Open to ITU-T Membership only] OR the
Indian Mobile Congress (IMC). Registration to either WTSA or IMC was mandatory to access the workshop.
