During the last few years, IMT2020/5G has gained important attention in the telecommunication sector as a future enabler for the connected society in the 2020 timeframe and beyond. Many telecommunication stakeholders, including academia, operators, vendors as well as regulatory bodies, are currently carrying interesting work to identify the framework and requirements for the 5G network architecture and services within several SDO's, alliances and consortia. These activities also include the elaboration of 5G functional architecture, FMC and softwarization aspects as well as work on energy efficiency for 5G. The demos (trail systems) for the proof of concept are being run.
This workshop provided a platform to continue the discussions on IMT-2020 wireline aspects, which started during the workshop held on 11 July 2017 at ITU Headquarters on "IMT-2020/5G Workshop and Demo Day ". Accordingly, the workshop aims were to: - Give an overview of SG13 standardization work and future plan on IMT-2020 wireline as well as the work and future plan of other ITU-T study groups on this topic;
- Present the major current and future activities of other groups working on IMT-2020 standards, including SDOs, consortia and forums;
- Present the achievements and current activities of the industry (operators, vendors, …) related to IMT-2020 infrastructure, applications and services as well as potential future developments;
- Demonstrate the IMT-2020 related prototype through a Demo show session.
This one-day technical event was open to experts participating in the IMT-2020 work of ITU and all other parties interested in networking technologies shaping future 5G systems.
