The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized the “Network of Women Breakfast” at ITU headquartersin Geneva, Switzerland, and online, on 23 January 2024 from 8h00 to 9h30 am. The “Network of Women Breakfast” collocated with the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group (TSAG) meeting, which took place from the 22 to 26 January 2024 at the same venue.
The event was organized with the kind support of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Republic of Korea.
The Network of Women in the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (NoW in ITU-T), formerly known as WISE, aims to promote gender inclusion in ITU-T's work in alignment with WTSA Resolution 55 (Rev. Geneva, 2022).
The objectives of the event were to:
- Introduce the role of the Network of Women (NoW) in ITU-T and gender parity objectives and target figures for World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24).
- Raise awareness on the importance of including female perspectives and greater gender equality in ITU-T's work and emphasize the importance of inclusivity and diversity in standardization efforts.
- Knowledge exchange and networking.
- Encourage both women and men to contribute to the growth and success of NoW in ITU-T.
This TSAG special event marked the start of the NoW4WTSA24 campaign in support of the hope to see women comprising at least 35 per cent of the delegates at WTSA-24. The event invited delegates to share their views on the promotion of women’s participation in standardization work and pledge their support for gender equality in delegations for WTSA-24.
Participation in this event was restricted to only ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions.
