Digital twin for ITS

A digital twin for ITS serves as a digital replica of the physical transportation environment, encompassing roads, traffic lights, vehicles, pedestrians, buildings, rivers, and more. This digital twin provides a comprehensive view of historical, real-time, and statistical traffic data, enhancing our understanding of the physical transportation landscape. This insight allows proactive identification and resolution of transportation system issues, including simulating traffic scenarios to detect potential problems early on. Such capabilities support the implementation of various strategies and contribute to the more efficient and intelligent design of ITS applications and services.

ITU-T SG20 explores innovative digital twin approaches, collaborates with industry experts, and develops international standards to integrate big data, artificial intelligence (AI), 3D modeling, IoT, and other technologies into the ITS digital twin.

Automotive emergency response system

Proper and efficient accident response-rescue procedures are necessary to reduce mortalities when a serious accident cannot be avoided so that victims can be transferred to hospitals within the critical timeframe. ITU-T SG20 develops Recommendations that govern automotive emergency response systems, comprising the foundational frameworks, data structures, and data transfer protocols essential for their effective operation.

Roadside sensing for autonomous driving

Autonomous driving requires advancements beyond vehicle sensors and traditional roadside sensing systems. ITU-T SG20 explores new functionalities like roadside multi-sensor data fusion systems, enhancing perception capabilities through coordinated use of devices such as cameras, lidars, and millimeter-wave radars.
