WTSA RESOLUTION 104 – Promoting and Strengthening Standardization Activities for Vehicular Communications

Overview                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 The world Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) in New Delhi, 2024, has introduced a new Resolution aimed at promoting and strengthening standardization activities for vehicular communications. This initiative aligns with global efforts to enhance road safety, support automated driving, and contribute to sustainable development goals.

This WTSA Resolution 104 marks a significant step towards creating a safer, more efficient, and sustainable vehicular communication ecosystem. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and standardization, it aims to support automated driving and contribute to global road safety and sustainable development goals.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Picture1.jpg      Strategic Actions

  1. Standardization and Interoperability:
    • Foster international telecommunication/ICT standards for vehicular communications, such as V2X and ITS, to achieve interoperability.
    • Collaborate with standards development organizations like ISO, ETSI, 3GPP, and IEEE.
  2. Innovation and Development:
    • Organize event such as the Future Networked Cars Symposium along with other forums, seminars, and workshops to promote innovation, research, and development in vehicular communications.
    • Support developing countries in implementing vehicular communication technologies.
  3. Collaboration and Partnerships:
    • Leverage partnerships with UNECE and other stakeholders to define regulatory requirements and telecommunication standards.
    • Encourage participation from telecommunication/ICT industries in ITU-T standardization activities.

  4. Security and Connectivity:
    • Develop comprehensive security solutions for vehicular communications.
    • Leverage IoT applications to enhance connectivity and safety in transportation.
Various ITU-T Study Groups are tasked with fostering standardization activities related to numbering, quality of service, security, and IoT applications for vehicular communications. See overview of ITU's Standards activities on ITS.
