David has driven transformational activities providing advanced technology in the multimedia industry since the transition to digital technology. He has driven aggressive top and bottom line growth as an executive in a number of leading communications technology companies around the world. Currently he is Vice President, Business Development, TV and Media at Ericsson based in Silicon Valley, USA. David is also Founder and on the Board of Directors of the Ultra HD Forum. He was previously on the Board of the DASH Industry Forum and is past-President of the MPEG Industry Forum
As all know He was previously chair of a number of ITU-R groups including Working Party 6C (“The Wilderness Years”)! He is author of many articles and works on HDTV, and UHDTV and is a Consultant, Technology and Innovation, to the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva Switzerland.
Part of Connected Studio, which publishes experimental innovation pilots from across the BBC for audiences to try, rate and share on BBC Taster, showcasing a range of digital innovation tools, techniques and content. Connected Studio also plays a large role in delivering the cutting edge tools and research from BBC R&D to content makers across the BBC and beyond.
Spencer’s in the BBC Blue Room involves understanding and contextualizing a broad range of new consumer technology, demonstrating to BBC staff as well as members of the public. Virtual Reality has understandably aroused a lot of interest, and Spencer as a key part of the BBC Blue Room is in a privileged position to witness many first time experiences and reactions.
The Blue Room's role is to highlight immediate consumer technology trends and game changing media creation & consumption devices and to bring them to the attention of the BBC's editorial, technical and management teams.
Staff and visitors to the Blue Room can test the latest consumer cameras, connected devices, emerging displays and new forms of content including augmented reality & virtual reality technologies.
