A Joint Declaration regarding strengthened collaboration in the field of Mapping of broadband infrastructure and services between the European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG’) and the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was signed on 5 June 2023 by Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, Ekaterine Imedadze, Commissioner of ComCom Georgia, and EaPeReg Chair for 2023, and Naama Henig, Head of International Affairs Department, Ministry of Communications, Israel, and EMERG Co-Chair.
The Declaration addresses several areas of interest, including:
- Strengthening collaboration in the field of mapping of the broadband infrastructure and services.
- Facilitating identification of good practices, facilitating the transfer of know-how, and enabling set-up of twinning programmes between the countries and regions concerned.
- Holding a joint workshop focusing on mapping of the broadband infrastructure and services.
This is in line with PP Resolution 139 (Rev. Bucharest, 2022), ITU Development priority on ‘Affordable connectivity’ and the expected results of the ITU Regional Initiative for Europe on ‘Digital infrastructure development’.
