The Accessible Americas: ICTs for ALL took place in Mexico City, Mexico, from 12 to 14 November 2024. This prestigious event was organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT), the national regulatory authority of Mexico.
Accessible Americas served as ITU's main regional platform dedicated to promoting ICT accessibility, with the goal of ensuring digital inclusion and empowerment for all individuals, regardless of age, gender, ability, or location. The primary objective of Accessible Americas was to enhance stakeholders' knowledge of digital inclusion policies and strategies, foster the sharing of best practices in ICT accessibility, and create valuable networking opportunities.
The event focused on interactive discussions about emerging technologies and their potential to improve ICT accessibility. Special attention was given to the needs of Indigenous and rural communities, as these were among the most underserved groups and included persons with disabilities, women, youth, and older individuals. The event also facilitated the exchange of experiences on affordable access to ICT equipment and services while addressing the Internet usage gap in both urban and remote areas, where coverage existed but many remained offline.
Participants benefited from an Executive Training session offered by ITU, which took an intersectional and holistic approach to ensuring that everyone was included in the digital space, leaving no one behind.
