The WTDC-14* instructed ITU to assist developing countries in building their capacity so as to be able to perform conformance and interoperability testing
of ICT equipment and systems, considering the specific needs of the region and in accordance with the relevant Recommendations.
This initiative aims to identify all the necessary elements and promote Regional and Sub-regional collaboration for establishing a common C&I Regime
and Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) to meet the needs and interests of Caribbean countries.
Based on the results of the assessment study, a common and
integrated approach for establishing appropriate C&I regimes in Caribbean countries will be proposed e.g. building additional labs ( mobile, EMC, NGN,
etc.) and/or encouraging the establishment of MRAs between countries.
The study is also part of a broader objective of CARICOM's Heads of Government to establish the Caribbean region as a Single ICT Space.
Possible scenarios to meet Caribbean needs on C&I are going to be presented and discussed during the Workshop.
