The
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was pleased to organise the second
ITU PRIDA national Focal Points meeting and TechComm meeting, last 17th and
18th December 2019, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
PRIDA
uses a bottom-up approach, by relying on our national Focal Points for
ascertaining country needs and suggestions for the PRIDA work programme. Hence,
in the Focal Points meeting we first focused in gathering each country's
situation and needs concerning PRIDA, for then later have a joint discussion on
the proposed Work Plan for 2020.
PRIDA
is a 3.5 year (2018-2021), six million USD, initiative by the AUC, EU and ITU.
It also includes RECs, ATU, Regional Regulatory Associations, National
Regulators, and other stakeholders. It includes many direct and indirect
actions for helping African countries achieve efficient and harmonized spectrum
utilization across Africa (harmonize wireless broadband internet spectrum),
including financing experts, training, capacity building, workshops, creation
of national, regional and Africa level Guidelines and Roadmaps, etc.
Subjects
include the Digital Dividend, SMS4DC, HCM4A, IOT (Internet of Things), Digital
Broadcasting technologies, and cross border coordination across countries,
among others.
ITU
offered one full fellowship per each African country.
