A Declaration of Intent on Digital Transformation and Technology Innovation was signed on 3 April by Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau and Mr Bernardo Mariano Jr., Assistant Secretary-General and Chief Information Technology Officer of the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).
The Declaration will ensure close cooperation and collaboration in several areas of interest, including:
- the development of global digital innovation ecosystems in support of digital inclusion;
- the scale-up of innovative homegrown solutions to address the challenges of developing countries;
- knowledge-sharing and best practices;
- the development of innovation platforms that brings innovation and entrepreneurship capacity at the national level;
- development and implementation of emerging technology tools;
- joint private/public partnerships; and
- the work of the ITU’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development
All this is in line with
WTDC resolutions 90 on 'fostering telecommunication/ICT-centric entrepreneurship digital innovation ecosystems for sustainable digital development', and 89 on 'Digital Transformation for sustainable development’ adopted by the last
World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-22) held in Kigali, Rwanda in 2022.
