Geek Girl Festival
For the last two years, AkiraChix has hosted the Girls in ICT Day event, reaching more than 400 high school girls and connecting them with industry
experts.
This year, we rebranded the event, and are now calling it the Geek Girl Festival. The theme of the event remained the same. The goal was to host a one
day event full of intense fun and brainstorming around career opportunities and making the right career choices, not only for Girls in High School, but
those in University as well.
Our keynote speaker for the event was be Wangechi Mwangi, co-founder and CEO of Valuraha, an organisation that exists to open up finance to Kenya and
Africa on a larger scale. Wangechi is a beneficiary of the AkiraChix High school outreach program, having met her during our initial sessions at
precious blood high school. She has volunteered with AkiraChix on a regular basis, and has since gone on to be one of the youngest upcoming successful
women in technology in Kenya and Africa, through her work with Valuraha.
We also had some great speed geeking sessions lined up, with speakers focusing on:-
