Summary: Smart grid is an important measure for countries to promote energy conservation and emission reduction, promote green economy, and address environmental and climate change. Smart meters have functions such as power metering, information storage and processing, real-time monitoring, automatic control, and information exchange. They are important tools for the development of smart grids and energy management, as well as key equipment connecting users and the power grid, helping to improve energy utilization efficiency. In the era of rapid development of smart grids, the demand for smart electricity meters will grow rapidly, and the proportion of smart electricity meters in the carbon emissions of the whole society will gradually increase. The main purpose of this Recommendation is to provide general principles for guiding relevant parties to calculate the carbon footprint of smart electricity meters, and improve the transparency and consistency of carbon footprint evaluation of smart electricity meters. The Recommendation is supposed to help stakeholders to comprehensively understand their carbon emissions and to help identify key emission reduction strategies during the overall life cycle of smart electricity meters.
