Summary:
|
ITU-T has already standardized a specific implementation of NICE making use of software defined networking concept and technologies which are termed as ''Software-defined NICE''(S-NICE). S-NICE supports the major functions of SDN technologies including the decoupling of control and data planes, the logical centralization of network intelligence and status and the abstraction of the underlying network infrastructure for the applications. By adopting the SDN technologies, highly scalable and flexible control as well as programmable and automatic interaction between network and applications can be supported in S-NICE.
As the widely recognition and implementation of SDN and NFV technologies in the existing networks, we propose to continue the work of S-NICE especially concerning its signalling architecture in Q1/11. The following issues are addressed in this Recommendation:
Specify the architecture of S-NICE including functions and functional entities, reference point and signalling architecture and interfaces.
Specify the signalling requirements and protocols for interfaces of S-NICE.
Specify the signalling procedures of S-NICE.
