Biographies |
Martin Adolph (Project Officer, Standardization Policy Division, ITU-T)
Martin Adolph is Programme Officer in
ITU’s Standardization Policy and
Technology Watch Division. Since joining
the organization in 2007, he has played
an active role in launching ITU’s work
on ICT and climate change, and in
organizing annual CTO meetings, bringing
together ITU’s management with global
ICT leaders.
Martin is also responsible for ITU-T’s
Technology Watch, which surveys the ICT
environment to capture new topics for
standardization activities. Fascinated
with innovation and new technologies, he
authored several Technology Watch
Reports on topics such as biometrics,
cloud computing, sensor networks, video
games, etc. He is also acting as
technical advisor to this year’s ITU
Kaleidoscope.
Martin holds a diploma in computer
science from Dresden University of
Technology, and one in engineering from
Ecole Centrale Paris.

Sabrina Camp (Membership officer, ITU-T)
Sabrina Camp is in charge of membership at the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of ITU. She administers and promotes the membership of the Standardization Sector of ITU (ITU-T) and acts as the focal point for ITU-T members, including governments and regulators, leading ICT companies and academia. She previously worked at the office of the Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, Malcolm Johnson.
Prior to joining ITU, Sabrina Camp was in charge of external relations
within several international institutions including the World Health
Organization and the European Commission.
Sabrina Camp holds a B.A in Political Science, a M.A in International
Relations and Development Studies and a degree in Arab Studies from
Sciences-Po Lyon (Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Lyon).

Chris Clark (Head of Sector membership, ITU)
Christopher Clark is a specialist in
external affairs and international
public-private partnerships. He is
currently the Head of Sector Membership
for the ITU, the United Nations
specialized agency for ICT, where he is
responsible for managing ITU's
relationship with its 700 member
organizations, including leading ICT
companies, international and regional
organizations and academia. Until
recently, he coordinated public-private
partnerships for ITU, bringing together
industry, governments and development
banks to collaborate on ICT projects.
Prior to that, he was a member of the
Executive Secretariat that organized the
World Summit on the Information Society,
where he managed fundraising and
sponsorships. A Canadian national, he
has served as Policy Advisor in the
Prime Minister’s Office and Senior
Policy Advisor to the Industry Minister.
He has also held roles as a business
development manager with a simulation
and training company and policy analyst
with a Canadian NGO. In his spare time,
he co-founded a non-profit online
networking platform (www.xeebee.org) for
professional meetings. Chris has an
M.B.A., specializing in international
marketing, and an M.A. in Public Policy.
He recently completed post-graduate
studies in sustainable business at
Cambridge University in the UK. Chris is
also learning Spanish, after having
completed United Nations proficiency
courses in French. |
Eva Ibarrola (University of the Basque Country, Spain)
Eva Ibarrola received the B.S. and M.S.
degrees in Telecommunications
Engineering from the University of the
Basque Country, Spain, in 1991. In 2010
she received the Ph.D. in
Telecommunications Engineering from the
same University for her work in the area
of user-centric QoS management models.
Prior to joining University of the
Basque Country in January 2000, she
worked as an expert engineer in the CNSO
(National Centre for Supervision and
Operations) of Telef�nica.
She has been cooperating in different
R&D projects related with
telecommunications QoS evaluation and
measurement. Her research interests
focus mainly on user’s oriented Quality
of Service (QoS) management models and
frameworks and Quality of Experience (QoE)
evaluation. |
Kai Jakobs (Professor, RWTH Aachen University, Germany)
Kai joined RWTH Aachen University's
Computer Science Department as a member
of technical staff in 1985. Since 1987,
he has been Head of Technical Staff at
the Chair of Informatik 4 (Communication
& Distributed Systems). He holds a PhD
in Computer Science from the University
of Edinburgh.
Kai is (co)-author/editor of a text book
on data communication networks and, more
recently, fourteen books on standards
and standardisation processes, with a
focus on the ICT sector. More than 170
of his papers have been published in
conference proceedings, books, and
journals. He has been on the programme
committee and editorial board of
numerous international conferences and
journals, respectively, and has served
as an external expert on evaluation
panels of various European R&D
programmes, on both technical and
socio-economic issues. Kai is also Vice
President of the European Academy for
Standardisation (EURAS), as well as
founder and editor-in-chief of the
'International Journal on IT Standards &
Standardization Research', and of the
'Advances in Information Technology
Standards and Standardization Research'
book series. |
Mitsuji Matsumoto (Waseda University, Japan)
Since joining NTT Labs in 1970, Mitsuji
Matsumoto has been engaged in Research
in the field of terminal design for
Telematics and Multimedia systems. In
1994, he received the Doctor’s Degree of
Engineering from Waseda University,
Tokyo Japan. In 1996, he joined Waseda
University as a Professor. After that he
has been studying in the graduate school
of the Global Information from 2000.
From April 2008, he visit the Center of
Excellence for Information and
Communication Engineering, Scuola
Superiore Sant’Anna, PISA Italy as a
visiting Professor.
He started International Standardization
activities from 1979 and worked on
Facsimile, Telematics, Non voice
Services and Multimedia. In 2000-2004
study period, he became a Vice Chairman
of ITU-T SG16.
His current research is the Wireless
communication using Infrared, Visible
Light and Radio wave. He also research
on the e-Everything, like e-Learning,
Accessibility, ITS, Emergency Call
system. He is a member of IEEE, ACM and
IEICE, IPSJ, IIEEJ in Japan. |
Paolo Rosa, Head of Workshops and Promotion Division, (ITU/TSB)
Mr Rosa received his degree in physics in 1974 in Rome, Italy, and joined
the R&D branch of the Italian Ministry of Communication working on optical
fibers transmission networks, in national and international standards and
leading quality control inspection teams for international telecommunication
projects.
He was head of national delegations for standardization and research studies
performed in IEC, ITU, ETSI, CECC, COST and represented the Italian Ministry
of Communications in various international institutions including the
European Commission task force for the G7 pilot projects on the Information
Society.
Paolo was appointed as expert and senior advisor by the Italian Foreign
Office, the UNDP and ITU for telecommunication projects in various
developing countries worldwide.
In 1997 he joined the ITU-T secretariat in Geneva as Counselor responsible
for Study Groups 6 (Outside plant), and SG 15 (Optical and other transport
networks) and representing ITU in various events. Since November 2004 he is
the Head of the Workshops and Promotion Division of the ITU Standardization
Sector, organizing events and promoting new ITU-T activities for resolutions
concerning developing countries, conformance and interoperability,
universities.
He is author of several papers published in international technical
magazines and speaker and lecturer in universities, international
conferences, seminars and workshops. |
Robert Shaw (Head of Innovation, ITU-D)
Robert Shaw is Head, Innovation Division
in the ITU’s Development Sector. In that
role he provides intellectual and
strategic leadership on innovation
knowledge and systems to build BDT and
ITU-wide expertise and knowledge. This
includes thought leadership on internal
innovation and the role of innovation in
socio-economic development and national
development agendas, particularly as
relating to the deployment of ICTs and
broadband.
The ITU is an intergovernmental treaty
organization with 193 Member States
based in Geneva, Switzerland,
responsible for the global development
of information and communication
technologies.
Mr. Shaw began his career at the ITU
over 28 years ago. During this period he
has represented ITU in multiple roles at
numerous national, regional and global
conferences and activities. He has
authored and presented papers at
numerous conferences. He has a Masters
Degree in Telecommunications from the
Technical University of Delft, The
Netherlands. |
Alfredo Terzoli (Rhodes University, South Africa)
Alfredo Terzoli obtained a Laurea cum
Laude in Physics from the University of
Pavia, Italy, in 1980. Having developed
a keen interest in computing, he soon
left academia for the industry, working
first for the internal Information
Systems of Honeywell Italia and later
for Snamprogetti, an engineering society
supporting the activity of ENI (Ente
Nazionale Idrocarburi, a large Italian
parastatal in mining and oil sector).
After spending a few years teaching
Computer Science and computer-assisted
Industrial Automation in an Italian
technical high school, he joined Rhodes
University in South Africa at end of
1989.
He is currently Professor in the
department of Computer Science at that
university, where he heads the Telkom
Centre of Excellence in Distributed
Multimedia. He is also Research Director
of the Telkom Centre of Excellence in
ICT for Development hosted by the nearby
University of Fort Hare. His research
interests are the building of advanced
telecom services that merge realtime and
non-realtime multimedia streams, and ICT
for Development. In the context of the
latter, he started and leads a
multi-disciplinary, long term,
cooperative research project in the
marginalized rural area of Dwesa, South
Africa, now known as the Siyakhula
Living Lab (www.siyakhulaLL.org). Since
2010, ideas and prototypes originating
from the Siyakhula Living Lab are
‘productized’ in Reed House Systems
(www.reedhousesystems.com), a solution
provider specializing in products for
ICT for Development. |
Norifumi Yamaguchi (Engineer, ITU-R)
Norifumi Yamaguchi joined ITU in 2009
and served as Engineer of Study Group
Department, Radiocommunication Bureau.
Since 2011, he has served as a Counselor
for ITU-R Working Party 5A which deals
with standardization on land mobile
service excluding international mobile
telecommunication systems (IMT).
Prior to joing Radiocommunication
Bureau, Norifumi Yamaguchi serves as a
director at the Service platform
architecture research center of the
National Institute of Information and
Communication Technology (NICT) in
Japan. He participated in several kinds
of ITU meetings such as WSIS,
Plenipotentiary Conference, World
Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) and
Study Group meetings within ITU as a
delegate.
He has received M.S. in Engineering
Economic Systems from Stanford
University in 1996. |
