June 15th: Why this year’s Global Symposium of Regulators will be pivotal​

June 1st: GSR turns 20: Onward to the next decade of success​​

"For two decades, ​​the GSR has played a central role in helping regulators get to grips with the​ burning issues that keep them awake at night – issues such as evolving digital taxation frameworks, infrastructure sharing strategies, consumer trust issues, the blurring of demarcation lines between content development and network operation, network investment issues, and digital inclusion.​"

​Launch of the 20th Edition of GSR celebration including launch of Digital Regulation Handbook and Platform​

​​More than 140 stakeholders joined ITU to kick-off the 20th edition celebrations of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) and took part in a virtual Leadership Debate on COVID-19 lessons learned.​

Leadership Debate: Resilient and secure digital connectivity for all - COVID-19 Recovery and lessons learned for better preparedness and response​​

The Leadership Debate saw high-level panelists share their views on establishing innovative and effective policy and regulatory solutions and experiences which have been key to strengthening the foundations for digital transformation and better build back.

July 7th: GSR-20 Regional Regulatory Roundtable Discussion for Europe and CIS

​This webinar was organized within the framework of GSR-20, and aimed at engaging representatives of the National Regulatory Authorities from Europe and CIS countries, as well as other stakeholders to advance discussions on regulation for digital transformation in the post​-COVID-19 era.​

Special focus was dedicated to the role of NRAs in shaping an enabling environment for the development of resilient and secure digital connectivity for all. Discussion, amongst m​any other topics were touched upon collaborative regulation, spectrum management, digital safety, as well as inclusiveness.​

The webdialogue was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in partnership with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the GSM Association (GSMA), a​nd aimed at engaging representatives of the National Regulatory Authorities and other stakeholders from South Asia to advance discussions on regulation for digital transformation in the post​-COVID-19 era.

This web dialogue aimed to help regulators, policymakers and industry to better understand the digital transformation that is taking place and tools to create a policy environment that enables their economies and societies to prosper in a world that is increasingly digital and data-driven.​

August 20th: GSR-20 Regional Regulatory Roundtable Discussion for the Arab and Africa Regions

This webinar aimed at engaging representatives of the National Regulatory Authorities as well as other stakeholders from the Africa and Arab regions to advance discussions on Competition Policy and Analysis in a Digital Apps environment.  ​

Discussions and reports presented at the webinar aimed to build knowledge and skills of ICT policy makers, regulators, industry and academia and provide them with the necessary policy and regulation tools to address competition issues in a digital applications environment with emphasis on two-sided and multi-sided markets. ​​​

August 27th-28th: USTTI-ITU Behind the Scenes Look at Emerging Technologies

Ahead of the celebrations of the 20th edition of GSR, USTTI and ITU teamed up to provide a behind the scenes look at the work taking place to prepare for the deployment and usage of emerging technologies.

Experts provided regulators with information on the technological underpinnings of emerging technologies and the spectrum planning that is taking place to enable these new services.

August 31st: Regulatory Associations Meeting

​The purpose of this meeting was to provide RAs with the opportunity to exchange on activities, opportunities, and challenges. The first part of the meeting focused on a panel discussion, with the second part of the meeting focusing on presentations of the main projects and activities of each Regulatory Associations, and  information on challenges relating to COVID-19 and how RAs have responded. A rich discussion on how Regulatory Associations can collaborate, and to identify solutions together to build back better in a post-COVID digital ecosystem.  ​

​​​Regulation for Digital Transformation - An industry perspective​​

This meeting addressed critical questions and proposed ways forward, from the industry's perspective, on the business and regulatory landscape challeng​es and shifts during COVID-19, and new partnership approaches within the context of revised growth forecasts for the global economy.​
