The Girls in ICT initiative of ITU is a global effort to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in ICTs. The International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April every year as established by ITU membership.
At ITU Headquarters in Geneva, a fascinating event around the theme "Celebrating Successes, Inspiring Girls" was held on 15 April, 2014 to celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day.
The event at ITU welcomed school girls aged 11-18 from local Swiss and French schools. ITU organized workshops for the school girls on coding, mobile apps, digital music, and photo blogging. The girls also had the chance to meet female ICT role models. The panel discussion focused on successful initiatives from around the world that are helping to lead women and girls into the field of ICTs.
