The objectives of the AI Governance and Ethics Initiatives are to (i) setup AI governance structures and frameworks that balance the need for business and technology innovation and consumer trust and confidence in adopting AI; and (ii) develop international thought leadership in AI governance and ethics. To date, Singapore has (i) published a draft AI governance framework that is non sector-specific, (ii) formed an Advisory Council on the Ethical Use of AI and Data to provide guidance to industry on responsible development and deployment of AI, and (iii) set up a Research Programme on Governance of AI and Data Use to develop a body of knowledge in AI ethics and governance and a pool of experts in these areas.

The AI Governance and Ethics Initiatives can be replicated in any jurisdiction that aims to promote ethical and responsible development and deployment of AI. For example, similar multi-stakeholder AI governance body can be set up to provide guidance to industry. Programmes dedicated to AI ethics and governance research can be set up in the academia for in-depth research with participation from the industry to ensure its relevance. The draft AI governance framework can be adopted as is or adapted by organisations for its specific use or industry.
AI technologies can be used ensure sustainable development. However, AI technologies come with challenges and risks too. The AI Governance and Ethics initiatives aims to mitigate the risks arising from the AI technologies and enhance the benefits of using AI to amplify human capabilities.
The AI Governance and Ethics Initiatives promotes the awareness of the ethical dimension of using info-communication technologies.
