MD
As an MD working with technologies of all types is vital to secure the highest standards of care. I am working in the Dermatology Department of the Technical University of Munich and we see how diagnostics are gradually being complemented by AI. This is a process that needs to be accompanied by developing an understanding for how new technologies work. As a member of our clinical ethics committee I am able to witness new ideas being introduced in medical research. Many interesting thoughts are introduced - and great opportunities lie in exploring many more of these in the future.
I feel an obligation to transport the view of doctors and share insights on the way technology and especially AI has a potential to re-shape how we care for and interact with patients. Women need to be especially adressed, when it comes to new technologies and this is something we all must work on. Research data and AI do at the moment not represent women fully. This leads to a number of ethical implications that need to be integrated in the discussion about AI and developments in the medical field as a whole.
It is crucial to establish an understanding of how technologies work and how they can be applied to improve currently imperfect situations in the healthcare systems around the globe.

I work in Information technology support and cyber security.
I volunteer to run tech communities in The Gambia and across africa through Women Techmakers.
A woman in tech from Africa involved in leading tech communities and writing content on emerging technologies, particularly in the context of WSIS action lines, I have been leading tech communities in the Gambia for the past three years from being student leader for school Union where I help bridge the gap between thearot and practice in coding to now leading the women techmakers community, where I provide visibility, mentorship and resource to women and girls in The Gambia. Since inceptio in 2020 to now, I have trained and mentored over 500 women and girls in The Gambia through ur series of activities such as bootcamps and networking sessions.
In 2021, I attended my fist internet governance in my country, this was my first time participating in the IGF and the idea of multistakehoderism too. I was able to engage in different conversations on youth empowerment and digital skills gap. Since then I started engaging in internet governance related activities and events. Last year, I was part of the committee organizers for our national IGF and I moderated one of the panel on youth empowerment and involvement in the internet governance space where the government. Civil society and the private sector joined the panel I moderated.
Again, I was selected to attend the West Africa Internet Governance School remotely. There I got to learn about all the different aspects of the Internet governance and also the role of internet governance in the digital space.
All these experiences and my interest in internet governance led me to start writing about it on my newsletter two year back where I write about emerging technologies but also in the context Africa can leverage on these technologies.
Promote Inclusive Tech Communities where individuals of all genders feel welcome and supported.
Organize events, workshops, and mentorship programs that specifically target women in tech, providing them with opportunities for networking and skill development.
Work towards eliminating gender bias in recruitment processes, ensuring that women are given equal opportunities in hiring, promotions, and project assignments especially in Least Development Countries.
Organize a hackathon specifically for women, encouraging them to collaborate on solving real-world problems using technology. This will emphasize the importance of women's participation in hackathons and tech competitions.

I'm writing to propose several recommendations that I believe could advance gender mainstreaming in ICTs, a key objective that should drive our collective efforts towards digital equality and inclusivity.
Digital Literacy: Gender digital literacy should be actively promoted, with specialized training programs and education to encourage and enable more women and girls to access and use ICTs. These programs should be tailored to different age groups and socio-economic circumstances, considering the digital divide is broader for women in certain demographics.
Policy Intervention: Governments and policymakers should foster enabling environments where women are not only encouraged to engage with ICTs but are also protected from online harassment and gender-based violence. It's crucial that policies and regulations protect women's digital rights, and ensure safe and secure online spaces for them.
Gender-Sensitive Technology Design: ICT solutions should be designed keeping in mind the needs and usage patterns of women. Gender-sensitive design and user experience can significantly influence the adoption rate of ICTs among women and girls.
Promotion of Women in ICT Careers: Encourage more women to take up careers in ICT through targeted career guidance, scholarships, mentoring programs, and internships. We must challenge the prevailing gender stereotypes and work to create a more gender-balanced ICT workforce.
Role Models and Mentoring: Highlight and promote women role models in the ICT sector. The visibility of successful women in ICT can inspire and motivate more girls and women to pursue careers and interests in the sector.
Research and Data: Ongoing research should be carried out to understand the specific barriers that prevent women and girls from fully participating in the digital economy. Sex-disaggregated data is essential for understanding the scope of the problem and tailoring interventions accordingly.
there are numerous types of activities that can be organized to promote gender mainstreaming in ICTs at the WSIS Forum 2024. Here are several suggestions:
Panel Discussions and Webinars: Convene leaders, academics, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of ICTs for panel discussions and webinars on various topics related to gender and ICTs. These discussions could focus on themes such as bridging the gender digital divide, best practices in gender-sensitive technology design, and policy advocacy for gender equality in ICTs.
Workshops and Training Sessions: Organize capacity-building workshops and training sessions on digital literacy, online safety, and usage of specific technologies or platforms. These sessions could target women and girls specifically and could be tailored to different age groups and proficiency levels.
Networking Events: Facilitate networking events where participants can meet and connect with mentors, role models, and potential collaborators in the field. These events could also provide opportunities for attendees to learn from the experiences of successful women in ICTs.
Tech Demos and Exhibitions: Invite tech companies, startups, and innovators to showcase technologies and solutions that address gender-specific needs or contribute to gender equality in ICTs.
Hackathons and Idea Competitions: Organize hackathons or idea competitions where participants can propose and develop ICT solutions addressing gender issues. This could inspire innovative thinking and practical solutions for gender-related challenges in the digital sphere.
Research Presentation Sessions: Encourage researchers and academics to present their research on gender and ICTs. This could provide valuable insights on the latest trends, challenges, and solutions in gender mainstreaming in ICTs.
Policy Roundtables: Arrange policy roundtable discussions that bring together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and activists to deliberate on effective policy measures for promoting gender equality in ICTs.
Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries|Goal 16: Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies

Millennia2025 digintelles 2.0 : Collective intelligence and digital skills as drivers for empowerment, foresight tool labelled in May 2020 and in May 2021 by UN Women France. The pandemic is changing our lives, threatening our health, weakening human relationships. Collective intelligence associated with digital skills have become essential to communicate and reorganize ourselves on every personal, family, social or professional basis. Online communication is now essential, even at the local level, of all generations. Inequalities are all the more acute, particularly for the younger generations. Too many women and girls all over the world are dramatically affected and violence against women escalates terribly during the confinements.
We invite you, from all regions, individually or with your associations and communities, to contribute to digintelles 2.0: please take a few minutes of your confined time to answer 7+1 questions online:

6 Strategic axes of Millennia2025 for the human society in 2025:
- SA-1. To better respect and protect physical, moral and psychological integrity of women. To reinforce their juridical capacities, assure them of the non-impunity of their agressors.
- SA-2. To help women to build a personal and collective capital of freedom of movement and decision, of quality of life, of education, of training, and of work.
- SA-3. To develop innovative processes in order to access to health care by mobilization of new human, financial and technological resources.
- SA-4. To give back confidence to women and to help them to become conscious that they are prisonners of degrading cultural and social representations.
- SA-5. To give the same rights to the girls than to the boys in the fields of education and training, to open all the channels and to commit them in common projects.
- SA-6. To improve the access of women in the social and economic activities, which are both carrying performance, efficiency, equity and social responsibilities.
I have to check what you already propose...

Health ICT, specifically Artificial Intelligence (AI)
DigitalDx Ventures is a majority woman-owned impact fund investing in early-stage health technology companies which deliver innovative solutions using artificial intelligence (AI) to diagnose illness earlier and address medical conditions with solutions collectively affecting over two billion lives worldwide. The Fund tracks to the Impact Management Project (IMP) framework for more accurate, less invasive, early detection, and less expensive.

Gender equality in venture capital is important not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because it is the smart thing to do. Research shows that VC firms with 10% more female investing partner hires make more successful investments at the portfolio company level; have 1.5% higher fund returns; and see 9.7% more profitable exits. Adding more women into the venture ecosystem - as investors, founders, C-suite of portfolio companies - increases returns across the whole industry.
DigitalDx Ventures works hard and takes action to add more women and minorities into the venture ecosystem. For gender parity, we are a majority woman owned fund, women receive the majority of the financial upside, half of our fund investors are women, we invest in a majority of women founded or run companies, a majority of our Entrepreneurs and Experts in Residence are women, we install women on the Boards and in the C-Suite, and half of our fellowship are women. We lecture extensively on promoting gender parity in all levels of healthcare, finance and board leadership. Our algorithm for company selection takes out the bias when looking at funding opportunities and the diversity of the team is a key metric in investment decisions. Finally, our DE&I is most evident in our team and our Fellowship Program where 50% of our fellowship are women.
A keynote, speaker roundtable, fireside chat, workshop with a focus on the following topic:
Track suggestion: How to Achieve Gender Parity In Venture Capital:
DigitalDx Ventures addresses the gender gap in venture capital where today only 2% of women founders receive funding. DDx is a majority woman-owned Fund. Women receive the majority of the financial upside, half of our fund investors are women, we invest in a majority of women founded or run companies, a majority of our Entrepreneurs and Experts in Residence are women, we install women on the Boards and in the C-Suite, and half of our Fellowship Program - training and educating the next generation of entrepreneurs - are women. We lecture extensively on promoting gender parity in all levels of healthcare, finance, and board leadership.

Conduct more research to identify the factors contributing to gender disparities in ICT and how this is evolving over time. Define targets for women representation in governance / forums. Celebrate successes so that young girls / women have role models to inspire them. From a funder / donor perspective, have dedicated funding for programmes that improve women access to skills / support / financing etc with proper mechanisms to measure the outcomes of such programmes.

My career is not directly related to ICTs, since I got a Degree in Law and a Master degree in Risk Management. However, I am involved in different organizations and activities related to internet governance, especially digital rights and data literacy, like Internet Society and Youth IGF. I am the project leader for an initiative related to data literacy and public policy investigator for the NGO “ IPANDETEC”.
I am mainly interested in how technologies can be useful for issues related to education, health, misinformation, equality and protection of minorities and vulnerable groups.
First of all, we have to finally end with the old belief “ICTs are just for men''. campaigns to share testimonials from girls in ICTs can be very useful. Also, the creation of programs, scholarships and fellowship to let girls be involved in the field, as spreading more information about what ICTs are… but in order to be successful, it’s important to invest time and funds to analyze the challenges girls and LGBTQ group face in the field, in order to create an efficient strategy to help them.
Promoting policy related to equality, such as guaranteeing spaces for women in panels and decision making groups, is also fundamental. Keeping the roster updated and creating partnerships with organizations that work with women empowerment are also necessary.
Maybe I could suggest them in the future.

Microengineering covers multiple fields and technologies, like robotics, sensors, signal processing, chip design, materials, production lines, nanotechnology, etc. My interest in tech now lies in how any use of technology and organisational solution-making impacts governance.
In implementable, concrete terms, just applying my answer to question 14 for now. Role models for males are important, and so is teaching the engineering side of tech in depth to others. Truly solving the issue is not feasible at this time.
Events where it is made clear that getting girls/women to use online social networks, selling digital products to them, or getting them to use digital products that come with data collection is NOT in their favor and therefore should not be part of the agendas of events.

robotics, computer science, new technologies, innovation, increasing numbers of girls and women in STEM education and employment to reach gender equitable solutions by 2030
Governments should review their laws and policies to improve gender equality in STEM by 2030.
All stakeholders should work together to eliminate gender stereotypes and employment practices that exclude girls and women from ICT workplaces.
Educational institutions, companies and government need to implement equitable solutions to accelerate reaching equal numbers of men and women in STEM education and employment by 2030.
Governments, investors and innovation ecosystems need to monitor gender statistics and take significant concerted action for gender equality in innovation. In some places, innovation funding to women is under 2 or 5%. Extensive changes that are scalable need to happen now to reach equitable innovation funding by 2030.
Core funding is needed for startup nonprofits (like ours) working to address inequalities in STEM education, employment and innovation ecosystems - as well as project and activities funding once core is obtained.

Public interest lawyer with 30 years experience in ICT regulation, public policy and competition . Iam a practicing lawyer admitted in Mexico with an LLM from Columbia University Law School, where I also worked with Eli Noam. I am a former Commissioner of the IFT, the Mexican regulatory and antitrust agency . I have worked as Alconsumidor founder, a consumer rights NGO who fought for class actions in Mexico and achieved legal reforms to that end.
I currently work in areas of digital inclusion, innovative spectrum management, spectrum sharing, enabling regulation and policy for universal access. Rural access, What holds back Latin America from inclusion and digital transformation ?
Enabling models for access and digital transformation. Community networks, Indigenous people and their right to communication. Gender and ICT, Disruptive models for digital inclusion. Ethics of AI. Regulatory excellence . What makes a Regulator successful.
As a founder and VP of Conectadas, a Mexican NGO of women leaders in ICT fighting for equality, a threefold strategy is necessary to tackle gender discrimination: 1) Women at the top making decisions with men, in parity terms, in all decision making seats in society. 2) Education at a young age for boys and girls to eliminate prejudice, stereotypes and role-playing so that more girls and women engage in STEAM careers and more boys and men engage in family and domestic responsibilities. 3)Public policy to eliminate gender violence, exclusion, stigma and bias in media, AV content and public speech in general, and in the labour markets.
I often see that men leave the floor the minute there is a session specific on Gender in every event I attend. I do think that we have to weave the Gender lens while talking of ICT topics so that they learn, men and women to build and design gender and diversity inclusive policies . If you organize a side event or fireplace chat on Gender and ICT you will lose all men.

I think that every action counts! Important tools are coherence (prepare us and demonstrate that it is possible), visibility (promoting more women as role models and making them visible), and sorority (understood as women supporting other women). On those lines, networks of women are very useful, because it is not only about a few ones inspiring others but about creating communities and long-term relationships. There are more and more regional networking groups for women in tech worldwide and I will always recommend becoming a part of these. Great examples in Latam are ChicasTicLatam (@latam_tic) and ConectadasMexico (@conectadas_mx).
At the personal level, I am very excited to be part of a great project organized by the ITU in the Americas region, led by Ana Veneroso. ITU Academy organized a course entitled “Women leadership in the Telecommunications Sector and ICT”, with two components: a technical one that I deliver and a leadership one that is provided by Paola Rueda Lopez. The main objective of this course is to reduce the gender gap in the sector, providing the main concepts in telecommunications and ICT, in a clear and simple way, as well as an overview of the trends in the sector and emerging technologies. This course also aims to address the main challenges and opportunities for the development of the sector including the female leadership component. We have had three groups of participants of different ages, countries, professions, and backgrounds, with different leadership roles from Vice Ministers and Commissioners to telecom analysts, university professors, and young professionals. It is really thrilling to see the results of this initiative, to hear the high level of satisfaction about its pertinence, and to be part of this effort that is creating new networks of female experts.
This is how inspiration can become an opportunity to impact lives, and how we all together can contribute to SDG5 and work for a more inclusive society. There is a huge impact when women come together as individuals or groups, so any opportunity to do so will greatly help accelerate the pace of change.
I think that ITU could replicate in other regions the project organized by the ITU in the Americas region regarding the ITU Academy course entitled “Women leadership in the Telecommunications Sector and ICT”, with two components: a technical one and a leadership one. Those courses could start a few months before the WSIS Forum. The final project is a group activity in which participants propose activities to close the gender gap, the experience has shown very interesting initiatives and experiences, the best ones from every region could be presented at the WSIS Forum.

Only implement recommendations that are based on sound research and data. Also, focus on policy approaches that have the possibility of scaling so that they impact populations at large. Reduce efforts that target only small numbers of direct participants or that are based on only anecdotal information. With a global population that is approaching 8 billion people, it's important to focus on initiatives that scale.
Activities and sessions that present research exploring key topics and provide evidence-based recommendations. Some particular areas that should be included are:
- Gender bias in schools
- The STEM Gap, particularly with respect to the women's pursuit of careers in engineering and computer science;
- Career advice for enhancing women's access to the C- suite (i.e. executive level positions)
