ICT innovation, relating to ageing, is set for a powerful leap forward. This session will explore the cutting-edge technologies – from AI, predictive analytics, monitoring and smart homes to telemedicine and prevention-focused technologies – that will define the future, exponentially expanding the boundaries of what is possible in healthcare and healthy ageing. The technological advances will be pivotal to keeping people and health systems active and sustained. Innovators are focusing on this area of development for the value they can bring to societies as well as their potential for success in the Silver Economy.
Kiliana Suzart-Woischnik is a Principal Epidemiologist at Bayer and the Co-founder of AcceleRed, a biotechnology company based in Berlin. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Ulm University.
Kazumi Nishikawa is Director, Healthcare Industries Division, of METI (Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry) of Japan. He is a member of Global Future Council for Human Enhancement and Longevity, WEF. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Nishikawa held various positions in METI over a period of 23 years, including Director for Trade Strategy to cover trade strategy and global growth strategy of Japan, Executive Director of JETRO Singapore/Special Advisor to the Minister's Secretariat of METI to cover Asian economic integration, Director for Policy Planning in the Economic and Industrial Policy Bureau to coordinate the Growth Strategy of “Abenomics” Policy, Principle Deputy Director of Minister’s Secretariat, WTO negotiator, and Deputy Director for SME Finance. He has also worked in the Defense Ministry and Cabinet Office. Mr Nishikawa holds a law degree from the University of Tokyo, an LLM from Northwestern University School of Law, and an LLM for International Study from Georgetown University Law Center. He had qualification as an Attorney at Law in New York state, USA.
S. Jay Olshansky received his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Chicago in 1984. He is currently a Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Research Associate at the Center on Aging at the University of Chicago and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Chief Scientist at Lapetus Solutions, Inc. The focus of his research to date has been on estimates of the upper limits to human longevity, exploring the health and public policy implications associated with individual and population aging, forecasts of the size, survival, and age structure of the population, pursuit of the scientific means to slow aging in people (The Longevity Dividend), and global implications of the re-emergence of infectious and parasitic diseases. Dr. Olshansky is on the Board of Directors of the American Federation of Aging Research; he is the first author of The Quest for Immortality: Science at the Frontiers of Aging (Norton, 2001) and A Measured Breath of Life (2013); and co-edited Aging: The Longevity Dividend (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, 2015). In 2016, Dr. Olshansky was honored with the Donald P. Kent Award from the Gerontological Society of America, the Irving S. Wright Award from the American Federation for Aging Research, and he was named one of Next Street’s Influencer in Aging.
Nuala Burke is the clinical lead at Walk With Path, a health tech start-up innovating smart wearables for mobility. She focuses on designing products for people with chronic conditions, building a strong evidence base through clinical and research collaboration, and patient engagement. Nuala's background is in improving independence in people as an Occupational Therapist and in public health at the World Health Organization to improve the sustainability of health care systems.
During his more than 20-years at Lilly, Rich has held several managerial and leadership roles, responsible for IT infrastructure, delivery and support functions. He began his career at Lilly in the U.K. and in 2013, moved to the U.S. to support various business units and functions. Rich was responsible for leading the development of the global customer support program strategy. Most recently, Rich served as Senior Director of Systems Delivery in Digital Health where he led the software development and delivery teams responsible for the development of software-as-a-medical-device products.
Rich earned his bachelor’s degree in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Brighton in the U.K. Rich.
Dave is a global digital health & life sciences executive who builds platform growth businesses across large organizations and ecosystems. He is recognized by colleagues and customers alike as a servant leader who successfully enlists diverse players to collaborate toward audacious industry goals. His passion and insights on precision health transformation are fueled by 15 years in the sector and first-hand experiences in more than 65 countries. Recently, as the global head of Intel’s Health & Life Sciences business, Dave led unprecedented P&L growth in the sector and pioneered the company’s novel global Health industry response to the pandemic. Dave is a Senior Advisor at the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and is Founder & Principal of SpectoVita, a consulting firm that advises healthtech innovators.
Dave predicted early on that telehealth would ‘save healthcare’ and called on industry to ‘save telehealth’ beyond the pandemic. He is an outspoken advocate worldwide on the transformative power of telehealth, artificial intelligence (AI) and the unexpected opportunities in an aging world. In addition to presence at numerous industry forums, Dave is an influential speaker in policy realms including the United Nations, OECD, APEC, G-20, USA Capitol Hill, ATA EDGE, Milken, IFA, IAGG, WSIS events and ministerial meetings across Asia & the EU. His call for a “New Social Contract” across ages was first published in the AARP International Journal.
He has served on the boards of Consumer Technology Association Health & Fitness Division, HIMSS’ Personal Connected Health Alliance, the Global Coalition on Aging, the Alliance for Connected Care and the American Chamber of Commerce China Health Cooperative. He is a board member and former Chair for a worldwide non-profit dedicated to improving infant care ( www.RIE.org), and President of the Board of Governors of a veteran’s historical preservation organization (www.ECSAA.org).
Dave holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, an M.B.A. from Pennsylvania State University, and is a Wharton Fellow.
