Description of the event
|
In line with the 2022 celebration of the International Girls in ICT Day with the theme: Access and Safety, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Philippines, in partnership with development partners from the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) - Quezon City Chapter and Philippine Network Operators Group (PhNOG) collaborated on a project that distributed mobile broadband prepaid routers to select young girls from public primary schools. On April 27, 2022, prepaid Wi-Fi routers were distributed to students from Nangka Elementary School and Leodegario Victorino Elementary School in Marikina City. The activity aimed at providing alternative connectivity options for young girls as broadband access remains to be an issue most especially to students who belong to low-income households. To help address this, the proponents of the project sought to provide supplemental means aid in internet access and essentially providing the youth with better learning opportunities.
