Description of the event

This discussion will seek to explore and critically unpack the construction of the problems we are looking to solve when we talk about the challenges of digital inclusion: What are the challenges we must be mindful of in identifying and fashioning solutions and pathways for gender equity and digital inclusion? How can intersectional identities be built into new digital tech and how do we ensure inclusive gender norms in ways we design tech?Such questions are fundamental to consider so that we focus our efforts and energies to “solve” and “fix” the roots rather than the symptoms of inequities, and, in so doing, avoid entrenching marginalisation through our construction of “problems” as much as “solutions.” Some questions include: How can initiatives such as innovation camps and processes deal with and contribute to generating knowledge and solutions to entrenched and unhelpful gender norms, and, what critical mindset must we develop and innovate (or “solve”) with to avoid reproducing these?Drawing on the diverse backgrounds, experiences, expertise, and opinions of the panel, this discussion will explore these concepts as they relate, in particular, to efforts and innovations se
