Mustafa graduated with the highest honors B.sc in Telecommunication and Control Engineering and merit Master Degree in Telecommunications Management in 2005 and 2009 respectively. He is currently doing a PhD in Management of Technology at Nile University-Egypt.

In August 2013, he joined the ITU in the Arab regional Office and he is regional coordinator for BDT Thematic Priorities: Policy and Regulation, Digital Technologies (5G, IPv6, IoT, AI, ..etc), Smart and Sustainable Cities, E-waste, Emergency Telecommunication, Capacity Development and Digital Skills.

His current research interests are in the broad areas of Technology Management of 5G and IoT wireless and mobile technologies, and intelligent wireless solutions for smart cities including smart water management as well as economic impact of emerging technologies.
