Dr Tom Pey was a successful international investment banker. At the age of 39, he lost his sight and after a period of coming to terms with his circumstances, he committed himself to supporting the needs of blind and partially sighted people. Undertaking ground-breaking research, Tom influenced the reshaping of services to that community in the UK. Dr Pey is the Chief Executive of the Royal Society for Blind Children, a charity that supports the needs of blind and partially sighted young people and their families in the UK. Dr Pey is Executive Chair of Wayfindr.net that undertook research into how blind and partially sighted people could benefit from audio based turn by turn navigation. In 2018, Dr Pey, along with two other people, founded a set up, Waymap Ltd, a company that will provide highly accurate, fully ITU Standard compliant (F921) integrated turn by turn navigation, both indoors and outdoors.
