ITU World Radiocommunication Seminar focuses on
regulatory aspects of the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and satellite
orbits
Event helps ITU members to prepare upcoming World Radiocommunication
Conference 2015
Geneva, 8 December 2014 – The World Radiocommunication
Seminar 2014 opened today in Geneva and will be meeting 8-12 December 2014. The
seminar is focused on the regulatory aspects of the use of the radio-frequency
spectrum and satellite orbits, in particular the application of the provisions
of the ITU Radio Regulations.
More than 400 participants from over 90 countries were registered at this
event.
ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun I. Touré said, “World Radiocommunication
Seminars, held biennially, provide to ITU members worldwide, a hands-on
experience with ITU notification procedures and an excellent opportunity to
become familiar with the procedures that regulate and govern the use of the
radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits.”
The first two days of the seminar are dedicated to discussing international
frequency management and radiocommunication standardization of the terrestrial
and space services. The last three days will enable participants to get hands-on
experience with ITU notification procedures as well as with the software and
electronic publications made available by the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau to
ITU membership.
“Radiocommunications today are undergoing constant changes,” said Mr François
Rancy, Director of ITU’s Radiocommunication Bureau. “These changes occur as a
result of technological improvements and changes in practice and they need to be
reflected in the international regulations on spectrum.”
WRS-14, jointly with Regional Radio Seminars, provide an opportunity to gain
deeper insight into the revised regulations following the World
Radiocommunication Conference 2012. These seminars also aim to provide
participants with essential technical and regulatory background information to
assist them to prepare for the next ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15)
to be held in Geneva, 2 - 27 November 2015.
