Connect2Recover, with its scope expanded to also cover natural hazards, continued its work and expanded its presence to all six regions of ITU.

  • An Internet resilience assessment post-disaster in Haiti as well as Internet resilience assessments in Kazakhstan and Mauritania were completed. Planning started for a similar assessment in Zimbabwe. The Connect2Recover methodology was also used for the assessment of Ukraine’s Internet resilience.
  • An IPv6 laboratory in Montenegro was also implemented in the Europe region.
  • The fifteen winning proposals from a research competition launched in July 2021 were developed into fifteen research reports.  These reports cover a diversity of research and case studies from 17 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Americas and Arab States. They bring invaluable insight in the areas of digital inclusion and the importance of digital resiliency, building from lessons learnt from COVID-19. The fifteen reports and the publication “Build Back Better with Broadband: Research stories from the Frontline” were launched during the ITU’s “Best practices and recommendations for digital inclusion through resilient infrastructure” event at the 17th Internet Governance Forum on 28 November 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
  • Connect2Recover strengthened partnerships and resource mobilization efforts from existing partners including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and Sector Members Huawei and Vodafone. In addition, new partners such as the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, Australia, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Republic of Lithuania, also contributed to Connect2Recover.
