• The ITU Academy experienced significant growth. As of October 2021, 11145 people were trained and 148 courses were delivered, 76 of which were through the Centres of Excellence initiative.

    Six new courses were launched:

  • WHO-ITU Digital Health Leadership
  • Measuring digital development: Telecommunication/ICT indicators
  • How to design and develop online courses
  • Business Planning for ICT Infrastructure development for Africa
  • 5G-the path to the next generation (GSMA-ITU)
  • Introduction to Service Quality Regulation
  • From January 2020 to September 2021, 106 388 people were trained in marginalized communities through the Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) initiative, 65 per cent of whom were rural women. Phase 2 of the DTC initiative will begin in early 2022, with 5 new DTCs identified.
  • 4138 people, including 3265 women were trained in basic digital skills through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) funded project launched to support DTC activities in Ghana. The project is ongoing and aims to reach 14 000 people by end December 2023.
  • 150 schoolgirls from underprivileged communities in Zambia were trained in essential digital skills through the Girls in ICT Project, a new Airtel Zambia and SMART Zambia Institute partnership established through the DTC network.
