Nigerian Woman in Information Technology (NIWIIT), Abuja Chapter

The Nigeria Women in Information Technology (NIWIIT), Abuja Chapter in collaboration with other stakeholders organised the 2015 Girls in ICT Day Event
with the theme: “Empowering and Encouraging Girls to Study ICT”. The event took place on Thursday, 18th June 2015 at Education Resource Centre, Zone 7,
Abuja.
The objective of the programme was to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in
Information and communication Technology (ICT).
In order to showcase the event, students were invited from Government and Private Secondary Schools in FCT, Abuja for a career talk and a quiz
competition on ICT. The schools that attended the event were: Government Girls Secondary School, Kuje; Anglican Girls Grammar School, Apo; Government
Girls Secondary School, Dutse; Army Day Secondary School, Maitama and System Education High School, Kubwa.
Present at the event were representatives from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Innovative Technology
Literacy Limited (ITLL), Members of NIWIIT, Abuja Chapter, and other invited Guests.
The activities for the day commenced with Opening Prayers/National Anthem, Introduction of Guests, Opening address was delivered by Mrs Iyabo
Adeleke-Adedeji, Coordinator of NIWIIT Abuja Chapter. Goodwill messages were delivered by the representatives of CBN and JAMB. Career Talk was
presented by Dr (Mrs) Aderonke Bello, who heighted the achievements of women in IT all over the world. The PowerPoint presentation stimulated the
interest of the students to consider various careers in the field of computer science.
ICT Quiz Competition, Interactive Session presenting successful women in IT to participate in the interactive session and to provide answers to
questions from the students and other participants
